My Backstory
Like any proper book character, I have a rather spectacular backstory! Even as a little girl, I had a deep love for stories of all kinds. My parents always read stories to me before bed, and I knew that the best way to extend my bedtime was to pick the longest children’s book we owned. The King’s Equal was a personal favorite, but I gave myself away when I asked for the Hobbit one night. Imagine my disappointment when they stopped reading after only one chapter. It was then I realized that if I could read to myself, I could do so for hours—all night if I wanted to!
From then on, I was always reading, even when I shouldn’t. One instance stands out, where a teacher caught me reading a book under my desk during her math lesson.
Now, as I’ve moved from children’s books to novels, I’ve found myself with a dilemma. Many times, I’ve picked up a book and started reading, only to realize that it was either age inappropriate, boring, or both. Reading is a massive part of my life. Much of my personality has been influenced by the characters that I have read about. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I want to honor Him with what I choose to put in my mind and my heart.
The Bible talks about purity of thought a lot, especially when it comes to things we can control, like what we read:
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8
While talking with my friends and family, I found that they shared the same struggles I did. That was the seed of The Bookwyrm. Now, with a site consisting of 151 book reviews and posts, that seed has grown into an amazing platform where I can share my love for stories with everyone who stumbles upon this blog. I hope it’s helpful. If anything, I hope it shows you all kinds of amazing, new stories to read. After all, there’s no place better to be than in between the pages of a book.
Welcome to The Bookwyrm, where we fight dragons together, one book at a time!
